Our team name change...

So at Zander's Mito specialist appointment last month we brought Hadley as well. We had just learned from the doctor treating her sleep issues that what we thought were medication side effects were actually more likely symptoms of Dysautonomia. Scary thing to hear, given what we have recently experienced with Zander. After our Mito specialist examined her, reviewed her medical history, and reviewed her buccal swab results she feels like Hadley is dealing with a much milder set of symptoms than Zander is, but believes it is also caused by Mito. She spent a lot of time talking with us and especially with Hadley. There was a lot of reassurance to all of us that what this was going to mean for Hadley is that we knew why she was feeling weird, and we were going to come up with a game plan to help her feel better. It's taken us a couple of weeks to talk about it, mainly because we were scrambling to get information from other specialists that our Mito doc sent us to. The great news is that the pediatric cardiologist does not feel like she needs medication for her Dysautonomia symptoms at this time, but gave us non-med ways to help her feel better. And the sleep doc is trialing her on a new treatment plan that they expect will help her as dramatically as it helped Zander with his energy levels. And we are extremely thankful that her symptoms are so mild that we missed them as symptoms of Mito and thought she was just having some medication side effects. But it's so important to know what we are dealing with, so that we can treat her appropriately when she is sick or has surgery and avoid the events that happened following Zander's surgery. So now you know why our team name changed. We will be walking on October 15th for Zander and for Hadley, and for all the other children and adults who are affected by this disease. Thank you for all of your love and prayers on this journey. When I think about the walk, I cannot wait to be surrounded by our friends and all of your love. Zander's Zebras and Hadley's Hearts. Galloping toward a cure. Surrounded by love. See you all on October 15th!
